In God We Trust

In God We Trust

By Jeff Houdyshelt

As a society, we have lost faith and trust in other people. The news broadcasts stories everyday about how man betrays another man. Even, Peter denied that he knew Jesus before final day. Jesus, was betrayed by Judas. Even our country has been betrayed by Government officials. Human beings are imperfect at most, and our faith and trust in man has been shaken. As Christians, we know that God will not betray us the bible shows us in Psalms 118, verses 6- 9 that we should take refuge in the Lord, rather than man.

Additionally, in Psalms 37 verses 3- 6 it states, Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act. He will bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday. These passages demonstrates that should commit ourselves fully to God, and he will intervene on our behalf. God is our protector, our deliverer, and our light. In him, we should keep him first in our lives. If we place our trust in him God will protect us.

In Psalms 91, it shows us if we place our trust in the Lord our God, we will not fear the night for he is with us. The entire Psalm is a cornerstone of trust in God. It also shows us that we hold fast to our love for him deliver us, protect us, and when we call out for God he will answer. In the end of Psalm 91 it states; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.". This commands us to love God and in return for that love, he will grant us a long life, and salvation. Psalm 91, clearly shows that if we trust in God he will be our overseer.

God loves us unconditionally, and through our love and trust in him we allow God to protect us and help keep us on track for eternal salvation. "And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you."

-Psalm 9:10. This passage tells us that even though we may sometimes falter, but if we put our trust in God he will always be by our said. The bible is full of scriptures that talk about how we should trust God. The entire book of Psalms shines the direct spotlight on our trust in God.

In Matthew 8, the bible tells us of a story about a centurion that approaches Jesus, and tells him that his servant was gravely ill. The story goes on to say that the centurion had enough trust and faith in God that Jesus healed the servant. In verse 13, it gives us Jesus last words to the centurion: Then Jesus said to the centurion, "Go your way; and as you have believed, so let it be done for you." And his servant was healed that same hour.

Verse 8, describes to us that belief and trust are parallel in meaning. We can believe in something, and also trust in the same belief. God wants us to believe in him therefore we must trust him and all the commands that are given to us throughout the bible. And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you. Psalm 9:10. Again, the passage simply says if we put our trust in God, we will not forsake us.

As Christians, it is vitally important that we put our faith, our belief, and our trust in God. He is the great deliverer, healer, communicator, and our savior. The book of Psalms is a wonderful to read about how we trust in the Lord, and tells us what God will do for us if we do place our trust in him.

The bible gives us numerous examples of how and why we should put our faith and trust in God. While man may betray or abandon us, God will always be with us. So place your trust in God and receive the many blessings that will be bestowed upon you. God is great, and as it states on the back of our currency "In God We Trust." This is all we need to know. As always, when you go out find someone, give them a hug and tell them that you love them, and that God does too.

In God We Trust

In God We Trust

By Steven E Coffman

In the United States, the familiar motto "In God We Trust" has been a part of our heritage and culture through the centuries. With an Act of Congress in 1956 "In God We Trust" became the official U.S. national motto. It is a statement that reflects the roots of our country and portrays our family core values of God and Country that should be cherished and always defended.

To trust where we cannot see, to take a leap of faith is the ultimate test of our willingness to follow God.  On the religious side of this statement "In God We Trust" listed below are just a few of the many quotes from the Bible supporting this thought:

Proverbs 3:3 (NRSV) teaches us, "Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not rely on your own insight."

Psalms:10 (AMP) tells us, "Many are the sorrow of the wicked, but he who trusts in, relies on, and confidently leans on the Lord shall be compassed about with mercy and with loving-kindness."

Proverbs 29:25 (NKJV) "The fear of man brings a snare: but whoever puts his trust in the LORD shall be safe."

Jeremiah 17:5 (NCV) it says, "The person who trusts in the LORD will be blessed."

John 14:1 (NCV) Jesus said, "Don't let your hearts be troubled, Trust in God, and trust in me."

On the patriotic side of the statement, "In God We Trust." American history demonstrates repeatedly that the nation was founded on Christian principles. The founding fathers wished to acknowledge that fact by adding "In God We Trust" all over Washington D.C. buildings, in official documents, and historical speeches. In 1864, eighty-eight years after the Declaration of Independence the U. S. Department of Treasury stamped IN GOD WE TRUST on our coins, and was first printed on paper money in 1957, when it appeared on the one-dollar silver certificate. This national motto is also printed on all of our currency up to the $100 bill.   In 2008 Congress mandated that the phrase "In God We Trust" has greater prominence on the new presidential dollar coins that were minted in 2009.

For decades the ACLU has attempted to have "In God We Trust" removed completely from all government institutions and our money. In a recent poll the MSNBC is running on the web they ask should the motto "In God We Trust" be removed from U.S. currency? 86 percent of the people who voted said, "No." "The motto has historical and patriotic significance and does nothing to establish a state religion."

I believe that Romans 1:16-17 (NRSV) says it all. For I am not ashamed of the gospel; it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who has faith, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed through faith for faith; as it is written, "The one who is righteous will live by faith."

Family-eStore.com is now featuring a lovely nightlight that vividly displays in a patriotic theme the motto, "In God We Trust." Custom made for Family-eStore. Now you can proudly display your love for God and Country with an attractive accent nightlight. It will serve as encouragement with this daily reminder of what we hold dear.   A great conversation piece that will showcase the family core values in your American home!

Biblical Wisdom Works For Everyone

Biblical Wisdom Works For Everyone

By Steve Wickham

Have you ever noticed people becoming promoted in the company you're in? Does there appear to be a pattern to it? What about marital relationships that survive as compared with those that fail? Is there a pattern to success and failure?

Judges 2:11-23 tells us of a recurrent life pattern of disobedience and defeat the nation of Israel suffered each time it turned away from the truth of their God, the LORD. The opposite of this pattern i.e. for obedience and faithfulness, also applies.

The pattern in Judges charts the historical pattern of Israel's history through the period of the Judges prior to Monarchic rule, but the pattern continued through the period of the kings as well.

The just, righteous, obedient kings were blessed by God and the unfaithful, idolatrous kings would be punished and would lose their kingdoms--this is how the kingdoms of Israel and Judah eventually fell (respectively to the Assyrians and Babylonians) in 722 B.C.E. and 586 B.C.E. This law of God's ancient wisdom has worked consistently right through the ages and remains today.

In our lives, too, whenever we step away from the truth, doing the wrong thing, we are thus judged or potentially judged (for the Christian, by God, for the non-God-believing person, by 'life') and we must then work our way back into the favour of people or the situation we're out of favour with. This is merely the implementation and outworking of God's wisdom in the historical tradition.

Wisdom in this way can equally be termed 'truth' as it's the way things generally work out. Wisdom can be applied by anyone and it will work, regardless of spiritual affiliation. And wisdom in this sense is still very much biblically based. This explains why the spiritually-blind person's heart 'rages against the LORD'[1] and others when things don't go right for them--they don't understand or respect God's ancient framework for the law which is simply based in 'cause and effect.' They can't get away from it; nobody can.

We can take this wisdom and put it in the setting of a workplace relationship.  For example, when someone talks a lot but they don't listen very well, they won't be afforded much real respect by their peers or supervisors. Sure, they'll be tolerated and treated nicely when face to face with people, but people will talk behind their back; certainly there will be less true respect for the things they stand for. There is a natural lack of tolerance for obnoxious people.

If we have a habit of speeding we'll get caught eventually--eventually our luck runs out. If we're non-genuine or even only half-genuine about an issue, people will perceive this lack of authenticity and we'll be tarnished. We can apply this rule of truth to really any situation--God's wisdom ends up reigning eventually.

This is why it is ultimately important that we're as obedient and dedicated to the truth and God's wisdom as we can be. It's a commitment that is honoured in many ways in the end. Knowing this, why would anyone go against it?
